A transistor is a device that regulates current or voltage flow and acts as a switch or gate for electronic signals. Transistors consist of three layers of a semiconductor material, each capable of carrying a current.
Transistors are basically classified into two types; they are Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJT) and Field Effect Transistors (FET). The BJTs are again classified into NPN and PNP transistors. The FET transistors are classified into JFET and MOSFET.
The transistor in which one p-type material is placed between two n-type materials is known as NPN transistor. In NPN transistor, the direction of movement of an electron is from the emitter to collector region due to which the current constitutes in the transistor.
